 Seats for Forklifts Kent - Kent, Washington serves a population of around 120,000. The city of Kent is the third biggest city within King County and is a suburb of Seattle. The population has just grown, but due mainly to annexation, not to an influx of new inhabitants. Nearby towns consist of Auburn, Federal Way, part of Covington to the South, unincorporated King County, Des Moines, Sea Tac and Federal Way to the west, Tukwila and Renton towards the north, and Covington to the east. Mt. Rainier can be seen towards the southeast.
The city consists of three distinct areas: West Hill, East Hill and the Valley. The Valley is home to the cities downtown core. Kent has a total area of 73.2 km2, wherein 72.6 km2 is land and 0.6 km2 is water. The city of Kent has the 2nd largest warehouse district in the nation. The Green River runs north through Kent on its way to Puget Sound. The East Hill region has a large lake known as Lake Meridian.
Kent was initially called Titusville after it was established by European-Americans inhabitants during the early 1860s. There is still a visible "Titusville Station" sign that can be found on Gowe St. Hops were the focus of the economy in the city because a lot of its earnings came from the grain in the 1880s. In Europe, hops crops was destroyed by an aphid infestation, boosting the price of hops from the Puget Sound area where hops were shipped from Titusville by rail or river transportation. A local invasion of aphids ultimately brought at end to the production of hops in the valley. Titusville was given a different name, after the County of Kent within England. Kent was established as a city in 1890 with a population of 793.
Businesses like REI, Oberto Sausage Company and Seattle Bicycle Supply have their headquarters within the city. The city of Kent likewise has a large Boeing plant. The fertile valley before is currently covered with various warehouses due partially to the city's part as a center for transportation routes. The expansive warehouse district is utilized for regional distribution by businesses like Whirlpool Corporation and general Electric Appliances.
The city of Kent has developed the ancillary shopping area and the Kent Station after its most recent revitalization drive.
