Missouri's geography is highly varied. The agriculture products of the state are beef, soybeans, pork, dairy products, corn, hay, sorghum, poultry, cotton, rice, and eggs. Missouri is ranked 6th in the nation for the production of hogs and 7th for cattle. Missouri is ranked in the top five states in the US for production of soy beans. As of 2001, there were 108,000 farms, the next largest number in whichever state after Texas. The state of Missouri actively promotes its wine industry that is fast growing.

There are large quantities of limestone in Missouri, together with the other resources that are mined, comprising: crushed stone, lead and coal. Lead production within the state of Missouri leads all other US states. The majority of the mines producing lead are situated in Missouri's central eastern area. Missouri also ranks first or just about first in the production of lime, a key component in Portland cement.
