Seats for Forklifts South Carolina - The US state of South Carolina is located in the Deep South area of the United States. South Carolina shares its border with Georgia to the south, North Carolina to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The state of South Carolina was initially a part of the Province of Carolina, and was one of the 13 colonies which declared independence from Great Britain in the American Revolution. The colony was originally named by King Charles II of England in honor of Charles I, his father, since Carolus is Latin for Charles. South Carolina was the very first state to vote to separate from the Union and was the founding state of the Confederate States of America. Based on the 2010 United States Census, South Carolina is ranked 24th amongst the U.S. states by population, at about 4,625,300 inhabitants. The state of South Carolina contains forty six counties and Columbia is its capital.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the gross state product of South Carolina in current dollars was $97 billion during the year 1997, and $153 billion during the year 2007. Its per-capita real gross domestic product or GDP in 2000, was $26,772 during the year 1997, and $28,894 during the year 2007; that represents 85% of the $31,619 per-capita real GDP for the United States on the whole in the year 1997, and 76% of the $38,020 for the U.S. in 2007.

South Carolina's significant agricultural production is in the fields of tobacco, poultry, cattle, dairy products, soybeans, rice and hogs. Industrial production in the state of South Carolina comprises chemical products, textiles products, paper products, machinery, automobiles and automotive products and tourism.

The state shares its border along with the state of North Carolina in the north, the state of Georgia towards the west across the Savannah River, and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean.

The state of South Carolina is composed of four geographic areas, or physiographic provinces, whose boundaries approximately parallel the Atlantic coast. Within the southeast part of the state is the Coastal Plain, which could be divided into the Outer and Inner Coastal Plains. From north to south the shore is divided into three separate parts, the Grand Strand, the Santee River Delta, and the Sea Islands. Further inland are the Sandhills, ancient dunes from what was before South Carolina's coastline millions of years ago. The Fall Line, which marks the limit of navigable rivers, runs along the boundary of the Piedmont and the sandhills, that has clay soils and rolling hills. In the northwest corner of the state of South Carolina are the Blue Ridge Mountains, the smallest geographical area within the state of South Carolina.

The state's shore contains a lot of salt marshes and estuaries, in addition to natural ports like for example Georgetown and Charleston. An unusual feature of the coastal plain is a large number of Carolina bays, the origins of which are uncertain. One prominent, but incorrect theory says that a meteor shower created them. The bays tend to be oval, lining up in a northwest to southeast direction. The terrain is flat and the soil is composed entirely of recent sediments like silt, clay and sand. Parts with better drainage make great farmland, though some land is swampy.
