The city is separated from Bakersfield by the Tehachapi mountain range (to the north) and from the Los Angeles Basin by the San Gabriel Mountains (to the south.) Lancaster is located about 70 miles north from Los Angeles. It is the 9th fastest growing city within the US, having gone from 37,000 in 1977 to its existing people of 145,074.

The city of Lancaster puts a huge priority on local business and encourages growth by offering less red tape and low priced land as an incentive. Growth has quickly increased during the years as distribution centers for companies comprising S, Michaels and Rite Aid have developed.

The responsibility to attract some companies to the city is the Lancaster Redevelopment Agency. Lancaster Town Center as well as Front Row Center are just a few of the companies this organization has been able to attract to Lancaster. The Agency has designated five areas as business and industrial parks, which are Enterprise Business Park, Fox Field Industrial Corridor, North Lancaster Industrial park, North valley Industrial Center and Lancaster Business park.

The BVLD, is a revitalized stretch of Lancaster Boulevard that runs approximately a mile that was just completed in the year 2010. It is located between 10th street west and sierra highway.
