 Seats for Forklifts Hartford - Hartford, Connecticut is the capital city of the state, and was the county seat of Hartford County, until the state disbanded the county government during the year 1960. According to the Census of 2010, the city's population was around 124,800, making it the 7th largest city in New England. It is the 2nd most populous city located on the Connecticut River, that is the largest river in New England. Hartford ranks the 3rd biggest city within the state of Connecticut, coming in after the coastal cities of New Haven and Bridgeport. With a population of around 1,212,400, Greater Hartford was the largest metropolitan area in Connecticut, according to the census of 2010.
Adriaen Block, a Dutch explorer, visited the area during the year 1614. Shortly after, trade was set up at Good Hope or Fort Goede Hoop, by the New Netherland colony. This particular fort was located at the confluence of the Park and Connecticut Rivers. It was established in the year 1623 but the fur traders ended up leaving their post by the year 1654. These days, the region close to the location is still referred to as Dutch Point.
The very first English settlers began to come to the area in the year 1635. The settlement was originally known as Newtown until the year 1637, when it was renamed Hartford. This name was chosen to honor Samuel Stone's home, among the original settlers, who came from Hertford, an English town.
The city of Hartford has the reputation of being the "Insurance capital of the world." It is the home and headquarters base for numerous key insurance businesses, though some of the insurance companies have relocated or moved a portion of their operations to cities situated nearby in the Hartford region, along with other places. One more main part of the local economy is made up by the Finance sector. Due to the Supreme Court, the legislature and the state capital building being located in Hartford, the government offers one more significant economic factor.
The city of Hartford is also home to numerous high-tech manufacturing firms and Fortune 500 multi-national organizations. They work to increase public access to the Connecticut River and have added a network of public recreational facilities along with a vast network of parks.
