The city of Saint Paul attracts visitors from the region to the Xcel Energy Center, a multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue. The city of Saint Paul is home of the Minnesota Wild Hockey Club. The Science Museum of Minnesota is the most famous museum within the Upper Midwest.

The twin cities have a higher literacy rates as opposed to the national average. In the year 2007, the city of Saint Paul actually saw an increase in the circulation of Sunday Newspapers. It was the only city with a population of 250,000 or more to do so.

The main companies of Gander Mountain, Ecolab and Lawson Software have their headquarters located within Saint Paul. The leading cleaning and chemical product company Ecolab, during 2008, ranked as the cities 8th best place to work. Lawson Software is a support and business software company. Gander Mountain is a large retailer of sporting goods. Though 3M Company is not located in Saint Paul, many people of Saint Paul work there. 3M hires 16,000 individuals throughout the state. St. Jude Medical, a manufacturer of medical devices, is located within Little Canada, a suburb of the Twin Cities.

The city was home to the Twin Cities Assembly Plant of Ford Motor Company within Highland Park on the Mississippi River. The plant was closed in the month of December of 2011. The majority (82 percent) of Minneapolis-Saint Paul-Bloomington area inhabitants are working within the private sector.
