Seats for Forklifts Lubbock - Lubbock City is found in northwest Texas, on the South Plains. The city of Lubbock has an approximate population of 215,000. The Texas Panhandle is situated north of the city with the Permian Basin located to the south of Lubbock. The city is elevated above sea level at approximately 3,250 ft.

Lubbock is a name that came from the former Civil War Confederate and Texas Ranger, Thomas S. Lubbock. Throughout this particular period his brother, Francis R. Lubbock, served as the governor of Texas.

Lubbock County was formed in the year 1876, even if the present-day city was not founded until the year 1890. The initial settlement was formed from the amalgamation of Monterey and Old Lubbock. In 1891 the city was dubbed the county seat and the city was incorporated on the 16th of March, the year 1909.

Shortly after Lubbock town was incorporated, the rail service was established. Thanks to these railroads, agriculture in the area grew rapidly. The area soon became the marketing hub of the county. For that reason they were known as the "Hub of the Plains."

Since several more opportunities were presented to Lubbock City it continued to develop. A significant boost to the economy of the city came from the opening of Texas Technological College during 1925. The effects of the Great Depression were countered by the development of two military training bases during the second World War. The cities population grew rapidly as soon as the war ended. Throughout the '40's, the growth rate was only second to Albuquerque throughout the entire nation.

On May 11,the year 1970, Lubbock City experienced its worst disaster in the form of a tornado. This led to 26 fatalities and has been considered one of the strongest tornadoes in history. It resulted in over $135 million in damages spanning more than three square miles of Lubbock City. In addition to the repairs carried out on the damaged buildings, the Lubbock memorial Civic Center was built as a tribute to individuals who were victims of this devastating natural disaster.

The economy of the city is still based mainly on the agricultural industry with additional income coming from a variety of manufacturing facilities. Lubbock City continues to diversify the economy within areas including government, retail trade, education, and health care. The agricultural industry draws in around 22 billion dollars yearly with cotton being the main crop. Cotton is not only a commodity which is profitable. It likewise helps support other businesses, such as gins, compresses, a denim plant, oil, cottonseed meal, lint and some processing facilities.
