As of the year 2008, Grand Prairie's top employers are: Grand Prairie Independent School District, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, Poly-America, Inc., Bell Helicopter-Textron, Grand Prairie City, Vought Aircraft Industries and Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie.
Six Flags, the well-known amusement park, runs its corporate office within the city. The headquarters for American Eurocopter is likewise located within the city of Grand Prairie.
In 1978, American Airlines relocated from the city of New York to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. They leased two large office buildings for their new headquarters. The move to Fort Worth was completed when the airline left its Grand Prairie facility on January 17, 1983.
