The Gilcrease Museum within Tulsa features a great collection of American art from the colonial times to the present. There is an emphasis on art from the west. The collection housed here was once owned by Tulsa oil magnate Thomas Gilcrease, but was later bought by the city of Tulsa in the year 1955. Included in the art is around 10,000 drawings, paintings, prints and sculptures by 400 artists. Of the 22 bronzes of Frederic Remington, 18 could be seen here. Other Tulsa museums and cultural attractions comprise the Philbrook Museum of Art, the Tulsa Air and Space Center and the Fenster Museum of Jewish Art. Tulsa is home to the Tulsa Zoo and the Oklahoma Aquarium. Mayfest is a 4-day outdoor arts and music festival which draws 250,000 people each year.
Although the oil industry has historically dominated Tulsa's economy, efforts in economic diversification have created a base in the sectors of finance, aerospace, telecommunications, technology, manufacturing and high tech. The Tulsa International Airport (TUL) as well as the Tulsa Port of Catoosa, the most inland seaport in the country, connect the region with worldwide trade and transportation. An American Airlines maintenance base at Tulsa International Airport is the largest employer of Tulsa and the largest maintenance facility within the globe, serving as the maintenance and engineering head office of the airline, while the Tulsa International Airport and the Tulsa Port Catoosa house extensive industrial parks.
In Tulsa, there are company headquarters for a few huge financial corporations such as the BOK Financial Corporation. Other businesses call Tulsa home, including QuikTrip, a semi-national convenience store chain, Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, the international car rental company, Mazzio's semi-national pizza chain and Hilti. Meanwhile, there are 30 businesses in Tulsa that hire more than 1,000 people, although small businesses make up more than 80 percent of the city's companies.
