 Seats for Forklifts Arlington County - The city of Arlington County, Virginia is situated on Potomac River's south bank in the northern part of the state of Virginia. The County is exactly across the river from Washington, D.C.
It was over 200 years ago, when the government of the United States had some land donated to them by the Commonwealth of Virginia. This land later became part of the new district capital. During 1801, the US Congress named the region Alexandria County and organized it as a subdivision of the District of Columbia. Forty-five years later, unresolved controversies over Congressional representation and slavery problems forced the US Congress to return the land to Virginia. The name of the county was eventually changed to Arlington.
Situated southeast of Arlington County is the City of Alexandria, that is a city which borders Fairfax County and Falls Church City to the southwest. Arlington County by total land area, is the smallest self-governing county within the nation. There are no incorporated towns within its area of 67 km2. The United States Census Bureau includes Arlington County for statistical purposes as a municipality in the Washington Metropolitan Area.
Arlington County has one of the highest-incomes of any county in the United States. The headquarters of many federal government agencies and departments are located in Arlington, due to its proximity to Washington, D.C. across the river. The Pentagon, the Department of Defense, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Air Force Office of Scientific Research and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration are all situated in the county of Arlington, along with a variety of service industries, federal agencies and government contractors. The majority of office space in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor is occupied by government contractors and agencies.
The head office of other key federal agencies in Arlington, include the National Science Foundation, Foreign Service Institute, Transportation Security Administration, Office of naval Research, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, United States Marshals Service and the United States Trade and Development Agency.
Arlington County attracts numerous tourists to its national memorials. The Pentagon Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the United States Air Force Memorial and the Marine Corps War Memorial are all situated here.
The County of Arlington has an extremely low unemployment rate. In the year 2009, the percentage of jobless residents was just 4.2. There are more than 200,000 jobs in the county of Arlington. Over 25 percent of these jobs are provided by state, local or federal government. Technical and professional occupations account for 19 percent, and food, accommodation and other services account for roughly 30% of jobs.
