 Seats for Forklifts Nevada - Nevada State is located within three regions in the United States: the southwestern, western and mountain west areas. The state has a population of 2.7 million, making it the 35th-most densely inhabited state; and an area of 110,561 square miles or 286,350 km2, that makes it the 7th biggest in the nation. The state of Nevada is semi-arid and mostly desert, situated in the Great Basin area. The name Nevada came from the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains, which means "snow-capped mountain range" in Spanish. The land comprising the modern state was inhabited by Native Americans of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe tribes before European contact. It was then claimed by Spain as a part of Alta California until the Mexican War of Independence brought it under Mexican control. The US gained the territory in 1848 following its victory in the Mexican-American War and the area was eventually incorporated as part of Utah Territory in 1850. The discovery of silver at the Comstock Lode during the year 1859 led to an increase in population which was an impetus to the creation of Nevada Territory out of western Utah Territory during 1861. Nevada became the 36th state on October 31, the year 1864.
The establishment of lenient marriage and divorce proceedings and legalized gambling in the 20th century transformed the state of Nevada into a major tourist location. The tourism trade remains Nevada's largest business, with mining continuing to be a substantial sector of the economy since the state of Nevada is the fourth biggest producer of gold in the planet.
Nevada State is officially called the "Silver State" because of the importance of silver to its history and economy. It is likewise called the "Battle Born State" since it achieved statehood in the Civil War and the "Sagebrush State" for the native eponymous plant.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis estimates that Nevada's total state product in 2010 was $126 billion. Resort areas such as reno, Las Vegas, Laughlin and Lake Tahoe attract visitors from around the nation and globe. In FY08 the total of 266 casinos with gaming revenue over $1m for the year, brought in revenue of $13 billion in non-gaming revenues and $12 billion in gaming revenues. The state's agricultural production comprises hay, cattle, alfalfa, dairy products, potatoes and onions. Industrial production includes mining, tourism, machinery, printing and publishing, food processing, and electric equipment.
