During March of the year 2011, the huge company Google said that the city of Kansas would be the location of a trial fiber-optic network that Google would construct at no cost to Kansas City. From a field of 1100 communities within the nation that had applied for the network, the city of Kansas was selected. Google intends to have the network working by the year 2012. There is an Online Training Academy Center located within Kansas as well.
Kansas City has various buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kansas City within the city is situated here and covers around 12,500 square miles in the eastern portion of the state.

Situated within the city of Kansas, there is an abundance of Queen Anne style of architecture. John G. Braecklein constructed a Victorian home for John and Margaret Scroggs in the region of Strawberry Hill.
