If a net salvage valuation is called
According to Rail Trail organizers there have been almost 9,800 emails of support sent via the website and they have helped to spread the importance of the benefit the trails would have on the community. The period for municipal governments to negotiate a deal for the land began the first week of September and will come to an end on October 5th.
“Unless a 'net salvage valuation' is called for, the outcome will be determined within this period. If a net salvage valuation is called, then the process is put on hold while an independent party is brought in to determine the price of the property. Currently the municipalities are working together with CN to negotiate an outcome that is in the best interest of our communities,” reads a statement from the Okanagan Rail Trail Initative.
If a deal is struck by the municipalities the Initiative will look to raise funds to turn the railway into a right-of-way community pathway that will benefit all types of users. Organizers are asking supporters to purchase a Okanagan Rail Trail t-shirt for a minimum donation of $20 will all proceeds going to the initiative. The shirts are available at local Okanagan bike shops including ChainLine Cycle, Cyclepath, Fresh Air Concepts, Kelowna Cycle, Olympia Cycle, Outbound Cycle, Sun Country Cycle and Skyride.
