Snorkel Seats

Snorkel has great pride in being at the very beginning of the self-propelled aerial work platform business. During the year 1946, Wally Johnson made the markets for both scaffold towers and aerial work platforms. An exceptionally talented engineer hailing from Berkeley, California, Mr. Johnson started a company referred to as UpRight. The business was born from Mr. Johnson's wish to find a solution for painting his house. When he could not locate scaffolding which can work within the uneven ground surrounding his own house, he decided to make his very own aluminum scaffold tower along with adjustable legs.

Being a talented businessman, together with being a creative inventor, Mr. Johnson immediately recognized the potential for his adjustable towers, specially within commercial applications. At the latter part of the 1950s, UpRight's Instant alloy towers had become the market leader in the USA. During the year 1958, the company started shipping their first export orders to Europe.

During that same year, Snorkel was established in St. Joseph, Missouri. They transformed the market by developing a new elevating boom lift particularly utilized for rescue work and fire fighting. Within 2 decades, the technology had advanced into self-propelled boom lifts. In 1977, Snorkel sold its very first self-propelled lift and this product line became the company's main business almost immediately.

After accomplishing great success and international domination with the scaffold, Wallace Johnson aimed to make the world's first self-propelled aerial lift. He opened a new factory in Selma in the year 1972, in order to create the "Flying Carpet" scissor lift. This ground-breaking product soon became the dominant player as the company's main source of revenue by overshadowing the scaffolding.

UpRight Inc. was sold when Mr. Johnson passed away in in the year 1980. The company's inventive and innovative ethos continued. In the year 1994, UpRight harnessed their pioneering ideas and introduced the world's first micro-scissor. They also launched the TM12, a self-propelled mast lift.

During 2007, the owners of UpRight acquired Snorkel. This purchase united the world's two oldest aerial work platform companies. Together, they combine more than 110 years of heritage, expertise and safety to safely lift millions of individuals all over the world to their workplace.

By 2010, Snorkel became the only trade name for marketing the company's various aerial work platforms all around the globe. Snorkel harnesses the creative energy that initially made these two businesses. Embellished with a spirit of client dedication, originality and dedication to success, these qualities have made the Snorkel brand synonymous with dependability and excellence all around the world.
